Eric makes really good butter tarts! What stood out for me was the filling — he uses maple syrup, and I love the deep flavour it imparts. Really excellent stuff. I have been going on a tour of butter tart bakeries in Toronto and across Ontario, and Eric's tarts are up there with the best of them.

Really fantastic tarts. All around. The pastry (which typical tarts fall short for me) is excellent. Not flaky, firm and delicious. All the different fillings are simply spectacular. If you like butter tarts, and have a sweet tooth, I haven't met their equals. Love Eric's base formula. Better than grandma's.......trust me.

I went to La Rocca Creative Kitchen in Richmond hill and bought an Eric's handcrafted classic butter tart from them and it was very average. The filling was very firm and not runny at all, tasted kind of bland and not sweet. I was surprised because of all the good reviews.

I picked up a few of these at the cheese boutique on Ripley - fantastic. Great quality ingredients, well balanced flavour. They are hard to get for a reason!

I was craving a butter tart and Googled "butter tarts near me" found Eric's and was super happy I did. I tried the score bits tarts and was blown away. Check em out!!

It's an "OMG" moment. First, I like a tasty (not overly sweet) filling that is at the right velvety consistency when you bite into it, where the crust does not overwhelm the filling or experience - it's job is to keep the filling intact and not fall apart upon biting the tart. Following Eric's suggestion I tried a frozen one (well half of one) first, then a refrigerated 1/2 that was pecan (it's a long story on why I only had 3 halfs of plain), 1/2 at room temperature and the last 1/2 half after a 10 sec microwave........ And, my own personal preference is refrigerated ! Frozen one is great (my 2nd fav) but all the flavour richness of the filling isn't obvious when you bite and chew it. At room temp it taste too sweet but I do get more of the dark maple syruppy undertone. When it is microwaved the complexity of the filling just doesn't materialize, for me Pls try your own test and above all - enjoy these tarts!

So sorry you did not enjoy your experience. The filling is redpath brown sugars, pure maple syrup, eggs, butter... the only way I could make it sweeter would be to add high fructose corn syrup, which is not a very high quality ingredient...
