From knowing very little about sailing to... crossing the ATLANTIC OCEAN in just six months! My sailing journey began at the Humber Bay Sailing Centre with a basic sailing course. At the time, I couldn't tell a Genoa from a storm jib—or even port from starboard—it was all completely new to me. Eager to put knowledge into practice and make the most of the warmer months in Toronto, I became a member right after that first course. With access to the club's fantastic shared boats, I was out sailing several times a week and quickly became part of a welcoming community. Humber Bay Sailing Centre is a truly excellent place to learn. The instructors are incredibly knowledgeable, and the courses I’ve taken—VHF radio, basic navigation, diesel engine maintenance, first aid, etc.—have all been great. With many more I’m looking forward to taking. HBSC is a place that keeps fueling curiosity and confidence, no matter your level. Beyond the formal training, the centre offers a wide range of informative seminars. Also, being actively involved in boat maintenance as a member gave me invaluable hands-on experience, which proved especially helpful when I had the opportunity to help move a boat from Belize to Honduras. The strong sense of community at HBSC has opened the door to some unforgettable adventures—from flotillas to Niagara-on-the-Lake to chartering a sailboat in the Caribbean with fellow members. Who knew that signing up for a beginner course would launch me toward the adventure of a lifetime-crossing the Atlantic Ocean just six months later? One courageous 'yes' led to one of the most life-transforming experiences of my life. This club offers endless opportunities. Highly, highly recommend!

I've been a member of the club for two years and took both my basic and intermediate keelboat with the club. It has been an amazing experience, everyone is very kind and the club culture is great. It's amazing that you can be sitting in an office and a few hours later be close hauled on the lake looking over downtown and watching the sunset. I've also had the opportunity to join up with members to go chartering in the Mediterranean and Caribbean. This is a great place to start your sailing journey as well as continue developing your skills.

I always wanted to sail but thought the sport was too expensive then I discovered this sailing club and school. Took my Basic Keelboat Cruising course, joined the Club and sailed on Club boats gaining experience. Took my Intermediate and Advanced courses, plus Navigation and other courses. Eventually became an instructor and now I teach Basic keelboat cruising. I love this place - one of the best schools to learn to sail on cruising keelboats and/or sail with other like-minded individuals in the sailing club.

This sailing centre is amazing. There is a school where you can learn sailing at all levels. There is a boat sharing club where you can practice sailing with other members, some of whom are very experienced, and there are formal mentoring sessions to gain confidence in various sailing skills. I've been a member for five years and this club is the best way to prepare for short or long sailing trips and to meet great people to go sailing with.

It is perfect place to begin and learn how to sail and maintain a keel boat. Great instructors and a lot of experienced sailors who are ready to help. It is a place to meet nice people brought together by the love of sailing.

Great sport, made dull due to poor teaching quality. The instructor for the Introduction To Sailing course needs to work on his teaching skills. First classes should be fun, not confusing and boring.

Can’t say enough good things about this place. Been through the whole curriculum, great value for the money and highest quality. If you want to learn how to sail in the GTA or just get out on the lake this is the place to be.
