When I feel like I need to have someone take care of me for a hot minute I stop in, have a cappuccino, maybe take out a chicken parm / piece of lasagna and not only is your stomach refueled but also your soul!☕️?
Cute little bakery and deli in Etobicoke near Islington and Dundas! The family owned Italian bakery has some of the best chicken and veal sandwiches with authentic Italian cuisine in a welcoming environment running by the store owner mother, father and son who treat you like their own the second you walk in the door to the smell of fresh coffee and fresh homemade pastries! Highly recommend especially their veal!
We found this place by chance about 5 years ago and we liked it. Now, whenever we have the opportunity, we go in for coffee and food. The owner - an older woman - cooks herself. Everything is very high quality and delicious, like grandma's. But you need to come early - because everything is quickly sold out.
I've been in a few times now and I love this place. Fresh hot food daily, super personable people who own and work here. It's definitely worth it to support their business today I got a chicken sandwich and cannoli which I'm super excited for, I usually get their pastas which are so tasty
I hadn't been to Espresso Bakery for almost 2 years having moved to Ottawa and spending the cold months in Mexico. When I lived in that city full time Espresso was my go to place to eat and be with the owners who always treated me like family. Since leaving Toronto I refused to eat lasagna anywhere else because when I did in Ottawa and Mexico I was always disappointed. I spent more than 2 weeks visiting friends in the area and ate at least 12 out of 15 days there. I probably enjoyed their lasagna at least 8 times bringing some home for my host who said he had never eaten that much wonderful Italian food in his life. Since I have known them for over 35 years I tried to meet Pina's family members on most Saturdays to catch up on the goings on of this tight knit group. Having been to several of the weddings and other gatherings and thrown many of my own Christmas Parties there some people thought I might have been a partner. On this trip I saw so many customers who have been regulars for over 25 years and they all knew me! If you want to enjoy delicious, reasonably priced Italian food and have a few laughs you won't find a better place than Espresso. Sometimes it feels like a reality TV show so come often and become part of the familia!!
After a recommendation from a friend and upon reading the many positive reviews, this morning, I visited the Espresso Bakery and Deli for the first time. I asked the gentleman behind the counter if he had any cannolis, he explained that they would be ready in 5-10 minutes and that I could wait or come back. I chose to wait. A few minutes later, a woman came out from the back and repeated that it would be 5-10 minutes and they would be $2.00 each (I wanted 3), or I could have 3 from yesterday for $5.00. I said that I would wait for the fresh ones. Shortly after that a second gentleman came out to get a brown paper bag. I politely told him that I would prefer a small box because I felt the cannolis would be fragile and I had to walk a little ways. Upon hearing this, the woman came back out with the cannolis already in a bag with the top scrunched closed. In an abrupt manner she said the cannolis were not fragile, she did not have a small box (unusual for a bakery), and 3 cannolis would "look stupid" in a big box and she would only give me a box if I purchased 6 cannolis. I then asked her if I could please see the cannolis in the bag. She said "no, first you pay and then you see". I asked her if she was serious and she said "yes". The reason I wanted to look in the bag was to see if the cannolis were standing up vertically because this causes some of the filling to stick to the bottom of the bag. At that point I told her that it was very disappointing because the food and service of her establishment had come highly recommended and I felt that she had been nothing but rude towards me the entire time. She seemed shocked by the fact that I chose not to purchase the cannolis. I understand that this was not a large purchase, but I already had the intention of returning for a meal with two sets of friends. That is no longer going to happen. One would think that small businesses appreciate all customers and understand that the best advertising is word of mouth. It is interesting to note that the many positive reviews are responded to by the owner, however, the negative reviews are not acknowledged.
I went here with a friend for lunch, and the food was as exceptional as the service. Many compliments to the staff. I will be returning here regularly. ☕️
