Our seven-year-old started drum lessons with Mr. Julien this summer, and we’ve been consistently impressed. He sets a high bar while still making the experience genuinely fun and motivating. Mr. Julien brings a rare combination of deep professional experience, clear structure, and real care for the student in front of him. His approach is thoughtful and personalized, adapting to how our son learns while steadily building skills, confidence, and musical understanding. He challenges him, but always in a way that feels encouraging rather than intimidating. Beyond the technical progress, we’ve noticed how much our son looks forward to his lessons each week. The trust and respect Mr. Julien builds with his students is obvious, and it shows in both the music and the enthusiasm. As a family, we’ve been incredibly happy with the drum program and the environment at Orrett. It’s clear this is the result of years of care and intention from Dave and the broader team. We’re excited to continue and would highly recommend Mr. Julien to any family looking for a serious, engaging, and well-rounded drum education for their child.
I have taken drum lessons with Mr Julien since the summer, starting as an adult. As someone who has spent a lot of time in music schools growing up, I can say that Julien is not a teacher you come across very often. He is incredibly talented and passionate in what he teaches. He tailors each lesson to where you are at/ your interests / your goals with the right amount of push but not too much as to discourage you. He is highly engaging and knowledgable, and not only a great musician but also a great teacher. I can’t imagine learning this new instrument with anyone else. Highly recommend Julien for drum lessons for people of all ages. Julien is a professional and you will not go wrong coming to him for your kids/ your own drum lessons. Orrett has very friendly staff, are easy to work with, and I look forward to going each week.
Exceptional drum teacher who truly cares about his students! Mr. Julien has been an outstanding drum teacher for my son. He's exceptionally talented, supportive, understanding, and really knows how to communicate with kids. What makes him special is how much he genuinely cares. He takes the time to know his students as people, asks about what's going on in their lives and how their week went, and adjusts his approach based on their mood and what they need that day. My son has grown so much under his guidance. When my son felt discouraged or had doubts about continuing, Mr. Julien was right there with understanding, patience and encouragement, finding different ways to help him work through those struggles. He is definitely a no-nonsense kind of person and takes pride in what he does. Mr. Julien treats his students with respect but expects the same in return. It creates a great learning environment where kids understand the boundaries but still feel supported. Beyond just teaching drums, he shares valuable life lessons that stick with them. He consistently goes above and beyond, and his communication with parents is top-notch. He's built a real friendship with both my son and me. I look forward to our chats after lessons as much as my son looks forward to the lessons themselves. If you're looking for a teacher who will truly show up for your kid and pours his heart into teaching, I can't recommend Mr. Julien enough. We feel really lucky to have found him.
We are so happy that we chose Orrett Music School. The environment is warm, supportive, and truly focused on helping students grow. Our child has learned so much from their team, and the progress has been amazing to see. We would especially like to highlight Mr. Jullian, who is an outstanding drum teacher. He is cool, friendly, and incredibly patient, which makes every lesson enjoyable. He explains techniques clearly, breaks things down step by step, and always provides detailed notes that make practicing at home so much easier. Dave and the teachers at Orrett are incredibly supportive of kids of all levels. My two daughters have had an amazing experience in both musical theatre and piano lessons.
