My daughter attended gymnastics here for five years in the competitive program and we had a fantastic experience. It’s a safe and supportive environment That contributed greatly to her development, both physically and emotionally. Many thanks to all
My experience and my daughter’s experience with TGI has always been phenomenal. The classes are well run by enthusiastic leaders. My daughter has had multiple different teachers and has loved them all. In addition to the classes, the Manager of Operations is truly someone special. Lindsay has been beyond helpful with any issues or concerns that have come up. She’s the kind of person that finds solution, and doesn’t just leave you with a problem.
To say our family is impressed with the program and instruction here is an understatement- these coaches are so passionate and supportive and we are so grateful for the care and dedication towards our gymnast. Thank you! (Brooklyn and Nevena rock!)
So I'm giving this one star review due to 1)lack of communication, and 2)poor programs So I had my daughter at Spartan Gymnastics initially, it did not seem like a legitimate gym so I brought my daughter over to Toronto Gymnastics International, in hope of getting her world class training, hoping she could compete one day. She was enrolled in Kindergym and after two months I asked one of the instructors about her moving to another program which is two times a week. I was told by Tulsi, that this program was for very strong and flexible kids and that my daughter was not ready yet. That was it, no further discussion or elaboration. I thought she needed to be in Kindergym for a while longer before being moved up. So I kept her in Kindergym for two rounds at TGI, and was able to move her to Advance Kindergym cause my daughter quite frankly was not learning anything. So I get a mass email sent to me that there are tryouts for the competition team for her age group, I was shocked that there was tryouts, my daughter was one of the best in her class so I thought she would do well at tryouts. So when she attempted tryout she bombed miserably, there were tasks she was asked to do (chin ups for reps, climbing a rope with no legs etc) which she has never been asked to do before despite being at TGI for almost a year. So it turns out, that they can look at children from3-4 years old and assess them for natural flexibility and strength, and if you have the genetics they will invest in you and teach you real gymnastics. If you don't, they won't give your child the time of day, and put them in useless rec programs until they eventually get Bored and quit. Additionally there is no personal training at the gym. Which makes me wonder about their competitive program, so if ur kid is not strong or flexible enough now, there is no way to get them stronger and more flexible for competition. Had someone asked me my goals with my daughter and explained to me that they were not going to invest in my 4 year old because of her genetics I would have taken her to another gym or pulled her from the sport completely. I signed her up for two more kindergyms because they told me she's not ready. (Implying she eventually will be) When I asked why there were activities she was asked to perform which are not taught in her Kindergym, they explicitly told me "Kindergym is not a feeder program for the competition team". Which contradicts what the other person told Me and begs the question of why I was sent an invite for the competition team tryout? The second reason for the 1 star review, is that their rec programs are absolutely terrible. My daughter was there for over a year and did not learn one single thing that she didn't already know. There was no progress on her rolling, cartwheel, hand stand or anything else. The program is once a week, the moves in gymnastics are so hard, and difficult there is no way your child is learning or progressing at once a week. I could literally take any random child from her kindergarten class and they would be able to perform all the same moves as my daughter who has been doing these programs for two years. NOBODY should be investing in this type of program. If TGI is going to bother to read this, you should have your rec programs 2X a week so that the rec kids have time to develop their skill set even if they are not competing. Otherwise it's just supervised play on gymnastics equipment at $30/hr.
Administration is very bad. No clear communication especially on costs and plans for competition. Acrobatics program shut down after 2 years. Teachers are amazing though!
I had my first class here as part of the adult recreational program. I loved it! I was so nervous to start because I am a total newby but they were really nice and really helpful! It was also just very fun and a great workout. I recommend signing up.
Both my girls are in gymnastics here. Coaches are excellent. They are attentive, patient and engaged. My daughters both smile the entire time they are in class. Both have progressed a lot and they have gained confidence in themselves and my eldest daughter has made friends.
