We did a bit of a Etobicoke Fish and Chips experiment today; ordered from both Queensway F&C and Kingsway F&C Queensway: not bad, solid piece of Haddock, fresh cut fries. A bit too oily Kingsway F&C: solid piece of Haddock, fresh cuts fries, not oily. GREAT atmosphere! To the Queensway owners; the oil needs to be changed, you can see it and taste it on the fries
Wow this place has been around since the 70s, hardworking owner which is nice to see. Place was a bit run down like you would expect for the location. One of the boxes fell on the ground and the worker picked it right back up to put the food in. Wish I didn't see that, otherwise the fish and chips were actually good. We also tried the pineapple and calamari, they use the same batter for everything so it was a bit over whelming towards the end.
We went for take out on Good Friday , which had a line up and took some time to wait for it. The haddock was very delicious, but found the halibut over cooked and very dry. The coleslaw was good, the French fries seems to not have a consistent cook as some were over cooked then others
Richard the owner makes the best fish and chips. Always perfect! The customer service is delightful. His batter is beautifully tasting Greatest gravy too!
An institution on Queensway for over 45 years, where my dad used to pick dinner from here! This is a classic, no frills fish and chips diner. The fish was fresh and had a nice ratio of batter to fish. Fries were of the fairly run of the mill, thick cut pub variety. Portion to price ratio, I would have liked to see a bigger piece of fish (ordered the halibut) for $18 (1 piece of halibut, fries and a drink). Atmosphere wise, it appears the decor was maintained since the late 70s (maybe a refurbishment to keep the look and feel since then?). It's no date place, yet there is still table service. If half stars were possible, I would give this a solid 3.5 star rating for the food. Better fish and chips can be found elsewhere, yet this will still satisfy your craving.
I was raised on Vancouver Island and had a LOT of fish but NOBODY beats Richard! Best fish and chips there is- Fresh, excellent cuts of high end fish- and his batter is perfect. His coleslaw is also to die for! My partners family has been coming to him for 40 years, he is our now two year olds favorite spot.
Hi....thanks for responding below...but Yes, it was YOUR fish and chips. Yes, it was just shy of $40 when you add 2 pops. And Yes, it was a much smaller portion subpar piece of fish. Sorry It used to be so good. So good! But sadly the last few times the fish has been over fried and tons of batter. I love extra batter but not when you use it to hide the fact that the piece is much smaller. They are always super busy so I'm not sure why Richard is scrimping with the size. They have loyal customers but even the loyal ones will start leaving at these prices. There is lots of competition in the area so they need to figure it out. Just shy of $40 for 2 halibut and fries. Quality just isn't there anymore
