I found the volunteers who work at this rescue to be hardworking, self-sacrificing and dedicated people who have the best interests of cats in mind. My contact was helpful, reasonable and diligent. I was impressed she took the time to check me out with my veterinarian before proceeding with the adoption. However, even the best-laid plans can go awry when you are dealing with complicated creatures like cats. I recently had a negative experience with Home At Last Rescue. I feel the organization needs to improve how they handle failed adoptions. I’m sure they are wonderful when all goes well but in my case they were very unprofessional. I made a difficult decision to return the adopted cat after one day. He got very stressed, physically ill and traumatized by being confined to one room making it impossible for a proper introduction to my resident cat. I felt I was mitigating a bad situation for everyone involved. When I spoke to a volunteer at PetSmart, she was very angry at me and told me the cat was still showing signs of illness days after I returned him and I was to blame She scolded me, questioned me in a condescending manner and made me feel guilty and discouraged without even listening to all the facts. She told me what I should and should not have done like it’s so easy. Before I could explain my decision she showed me the door and motioned for me to leave. Her anger & disgust prompted me to write a detailed letter to my contact. I was hoping she would understand my decision and that the information would help with future adoptions. I did not receive any response or acknowledgement. She also ignored a text message. I feel she was sending me a message “You let me down, I no longer have any use for you and I can’t be bothered with you.” This was very rude & disrespectful especially since I paid a hefty $295.00 adoption fee that I told the angry volunteer to put towards the cat’s veterinary costs. I did not even get a “thank you”. She barked at me “THERE’S NOTHING WRONG WITH HIM! The way I was ghosted by my contact leads me to suspect certain aspects of the cat’s personality and background were hidden or glossed over to cast him in a more positive light. I only received sketchy details. I noticed some discrepancies that didn’t make sense. I am to blame for not asking for more information and being too trusting. They do cover themselves by stating in their contract that they cannot guarantee the health or temperament of their cats, which is fair. However, they should extend the same courtesy to adopters and refrain from condemning them if unforeseen issues arise and the adoption fails. My warning to HALR is if you express anger towards people who have a failed adoption (which is not uncommon), you are discouraging them from returning your cats. They may go to other rescues, the shelters run by the city or even worse dumping the cat somewhere. Please try to be more understanding towards people who are willing to help you but for whatever reason just can’t make the adoption work.

My life drastically changed last year when I adopted the two loves of my life from Home at Last Rescue! It broke my heart when I found out that these girls were up for adoption since they were kittens with no suitable applications. They changed my life for the better and keep my days super interesting.

Amazing work by Home At Last Rescue! Their dedication to rescuing and caring for cats in need is truly inspiring. Thank you for all that you do to make a difference in the lives of these beautiful animals.

Recently adopted our most adorable, silly and heartwarming trio of siblings from Home at Last Rescue. Phoenix (male), Hope (female) and Faith (female) as pictured in sequence, are truly the brightest lights in our lives. Our family couldn’t be more grateful and thankful for them being part of ours. The entire adoption process from start to finish was such a professional, pleasant, and rewarding experience. Huge shoutout to their Foster Mama. She truly is one of a kind and raised these special babies with the utmost love, dedication, and care because it really shows and shines through each of their sweetheart personalities! Thank you all as a team for your continued efforts and dedication to such a meaningful cause. Finding the purr-fect fur-ever homes for all homeless kitties isn’t easy but you guys do it in the best way possible by running the most incredible rescue out there??

My entire experience adopting a kitten (my sweet Neymar, now Jack) was positive in every way. The description of Jack represented him perfectly. His foster mom Alicia face-timed me with Jack for the meet-and-greet, answered a raft of questions from me, provided me with all of his medical records and had done a fabulous job with socialization. Maggie had tons of patience with me throughout the process, gave me helpful resources on introducing Jack to my cat Maya, and kept in touch during the transition, giving me valuable feedback on the introductions. Can’t recommend this rescue highly enough. They really care.

I’m a volunteer! My fostering experience has been excellent-the rescue is quick to answer & is so supportive. It’s a team…everyone contributes. I’m grateful for the work Home At Last Rescue does. They never shy away, and they are careful with adoptions

Nothing but positivity for this rescue! They are a team of people that make sure the right cat or kitten finds the right family. Adopted cats are well taken care of and social - and vetted!

We are fully aware of the situation and thought your email had been responded to. We apologize for this. Nor do we condone the unprofessional behaviour of the volunteer you dealt with and she has been spoken to.
